1. But if he imported the updated sites sql of MySQL8 to the Host's MySQL5 (and run the site for a while) would that not have corrupted the database?
2. So exporting from the MySQL5 to a new MySQL8 (on the Host) would that still work?

Besides which the OP is (according to his thread viewtopic.php?f=841&t=1006502 )with Hostgater. And Hostgater are not updating to MySQL8.
